Instructions for a Heatwave...
It weren't half hot mum...
Anyone else feel like they’re coming up for air before the next heatwave rolls around?
I found this in the Oxfam Superstore last Friday (took my daughter as the school was shut for THREE days!)…seemed like it needed to come home with me:
Last week was NOT fun.
I hope all my UK/Europe readers got through it OK and if you have top tips let me know…mine included:
going to bed with a bottle of frozen water wrapped in a flannel
keeping a little spray bottle of water in the fridge
a dunk in the blow up plunge pool when it all got too much (courtesy of husband’s sauna side hustle)
It’s sobering to think about how future summers might play out for my two kids. Instead of being off school for ‘snow days’ might they instead miss more schooling because their school is just too damn hot…?
Quick bit of mailing list admin - bear with me…and free stuff…
Last week (possibly misguided in the brain-frazzling heat), I also moved and merged my mailing lists (which were on Mailerlite, over to Kit…) - hopefully you’ll have seen some emails and I’ve not lost anyone BUT… if you’re not sure, do have a dig around in your Junk folder just in case…if you were used to getting emails from me at hello@managingthemenopause.com then they will come from emma@thetripleshift.org in future. Do add that to your Contacts list (pretty please) so they don’t end up in limbo…(these newsletters carry on via Substack, it’s just any standalone emails that’ll be sent from Kit. Confused, yes me too…!
And just in case you missed it, all my free resources are here: https://www.thetripleshift.org/freeresources - I’ll keep adding things over time and if/when I do, I’ll remind you of the link…but feel free to bookmark it to refer back to, and if you want to share any of the resources with a friend or colleague, please send them to this page to sign up first: https://the-triple-shift.kit.com/b11e4a833b
What? (or…am I going a bit deaf…?)
I’ve noticed that I seem to be asking family members to repeat themselves a lot lately, so I think I’m going to have to take myself off for a hearing test…
Interestingly, this study popped up on my LinkedIn feed this morning:
Hearing Changes Across the Menopause Transition
We are looking for women aged 45–65 who are currently in perimenopause or postmenopause. The study includes questions regarding menopausal symptoms and hearing experiences in everyday life as well as a listening test. The study takes approximately 30-35 minutes and can be completed at home.
The link to take part is here. And you can find out more about Anna Katharina Bauer’s research here.
Given that hearing loss is a major modifiable risk factor for dementia (my mum has Alzheimer’s), I’m not taking any chances.
Specsavers offers free hearing tests here. I’ve just booked mine…
Until next time,
Emma
